Three of Swords (The Tarot Trilogy Book 1) - edition by J.D. Bretton. Romance eBooks @ . Reviews

This novel starts quickly, and makes it clear its genre as an erotic romance. I don’t generally tend to read this genre at all, but J. D. Bretton’s skilled writing drew me in with amazing description of not only the more steamy scenes, but the world around the characters. Danielle, the main character, is unique and strongly developed, with a personality and voice that is solely her own. Most of the novel includes her thoughts and feelings, and it is this that brings the story alive.

The conflict of the story starts off slower than anything else, but allows for a great deal of build-up and character development beforehand.
I enjoyed how Tarot cards were woven into the otherwise ‘normal’ plot, adding a sense of magic to it.

It’s quite a short book, and obviously focuses a lot on the erotic scenes rather than anything else, but it is unique, and for those who enjoy this genre, I recommend it!
The author's well crafted tale takes you through a myriad of emotions as you experience the main character's journey and all of the story's twists and turns. The author does a fantastic job of bringing the characters to life. You won't be able to put down this book. Anxiously awaiting Book Two!
I was pleasantly surprised on how such a short book could be so addicting. I loved the characters, could relate to Danielle, and especially the steamy parts of the book. Best way to describe the book is it's a shorter, more to the point, non repetitive 50 Shades of Grey!! Can't wait to see what happens next. I sincerely hope the author J.D. Bretton will make a sequel, and soon.!!
J.D. Bretton wastes no time drawing the reader in with this interesting and multi-faceted novel that captures it all... from drama and suspense, to fantasy, erotica and vivid imagery. It's easy to get lost in the sexually charged, romantic tale of Danielle's life and how she copes with heartbreak and loss, which is identifiable to many women on so many different levels. I honestly don't tend to read much erotica, but I liked the creative fantasy spin and the complexity of the characters this book provides. If erotica is your thing, this sexy read does not disappoint! Overall, I really enjoyed this book and even gave a copy to a few of my friends who liked it equally as well. I am greatly anticipating Book 2, Eight of Cups, which will certainly be on the top of my summer reading list. By the way, I don't use Twitter, but I like following J.D. Bretton on Facebook...it's a great way to see glimpses of what the author is writing about next!
Review taken from pages-intheattic.blogspot.com

Danielle's great tragedy is that she hasn't been able to fulfill her dream of becoming a mother and to top the whole thing up her husband is getting tired of her incessant grieving. It seems that she is trapped in a hole she can't go out of, so you certainly pity her; nonetheless as pages pass by that obsession makes the character somehow dull and repetitive.

Though, there's nothing so painful that good sex cannot fix, if only for a while in Danielle's life. The ephemeral antidote gives both Danielle and Xavier the relief they so desperately search for. What impresses me though, is the fact that despite of her deep sadness she can easily switch from desolation to sexual arousal in a matter of minutes! This feature reminds me somehow of that of comedy-horror movies in which characters go from fright to laugh so quickly that I kind of feel I've missed something. On the other side if you're a fan of steaming sexual episodes this is your book! Scenes are described with such realism that you won't want to miss them out.

My favorite part of the book is no doubt the suspense the author confers to her work, the way Xavier approaches Danielle evokes a combination of apprehension and romance at once. My top-notch scene is when Xavier tries to reveal himself to his brother in order to tell him what really happened to him.

I'm willing to read part II and get to know how circumstances end up for Xavier and what the future holds for both of them. Will somebody else be able to see or sense Xavier's presence? Will more characters become ghosts too? What a thrill!
Steamy hot!
With that said great writing, images and characters. Lots of action. We can connect with love and heartbreak.
A gifted writer who knows her craft, wants to keep you intrigued and coming back for more.
Enjoyed it tremendously. Steamy hot scenes alternated with emotionally charged action. Novella length doesn't really allow to get in deep with the characters, I hope we find out more about them in the sequels. Also curious to see how the writing will develop. Job well done.
